Orissa Water Supply & Sewerage Board (OWSSB) was established in the year 1991 as per the Orissa Water Supply & Sewerage Board Act, 1991 for the rapid development and      proper regulation of water supply and sewerage services in the state of Orissa.Orissa Water Supply and Sewerage Board (OWSSB) is the nodal agency in the state to implement       projects related to the urban sanitation.

OWSSB executes sewerage and septage projects in the state and after completion, hands over the projects to Public Health Engineering Organization (OPHEO) for operation and       maintenance

At present the core function of OWSSB is to provide

• (a) Sewerage system of Sambalpur and Rourkela city
• (b) Preparation of DPR (Detailed Project Report)&tendering forconstruction of Septage Treatment Plants in different ULBs of the state
• (c) Overall monitoring of the implementation of the Septage Treatment Plants (SeTP) in the state.
• (d) Construction and Operation & Maintenance (O & M) of SeTPs in Bhubaneswar and provide Training and capacity buildingon FSSM in the state
